Elementary Music

Charlotte Lappla & Don Gill Elementary Music grades K-4

Mrs. Molly Cary is the music teacher in our elementary schools and has a philosophy  to encourage every child she teaches to find a lifelong love and respect for all music.

Throughout her week, she sees every student from kindergarten through fourth grade. Although she only get to see each group for 40 minutes at a time, she reports that spending five years straight with them is amazing and wonderful.

In K/1 classes students learn the concepts of high and low, fast and slow, loud and soft. Rhythm reading begins with quarter notes, eight notes, quarter rests. Introduction to playing instruments is done with and drums, bells, and rhythm sticks. There is a lot of dancing and music games using puppets for singing voices and scarves for movement.

In 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade her students learn how to read, write and perform music in and artistic and meaningful way. These students use boomwackers and recorders to learn about dynamics, pitch, tempo, while playing music games, learning dances, and working in centers.

Each grade has a concert that they are preparing for and performances are enjoyed by teachers, the community and their families alike.
